Pediatric Eye Exam, Raleigh & Morrisville, NC

Pediatric eye exams are essential for detecting any vision problems or eye conditions early on, as many issues can go unnoticed without a comprehensive exam. Children may not always be able to communicate if they are experiencing vision problems, so regular check-ups are crucial in ensuring their eyesight is healthy and functioning properly.

Our team understands that each child is unique and may have different needs when it comes to their vision care. That’s why we take the time to listen to both you and your child during the exam process to address any concerns or questions you may have. We believe in building a trusting relationship with our young patients so that they feel comfortable coming back for future visits and developing healthy habits when it comes to caring for their eyes.

What to expect during a pediatric eye exam

During a pediatric eye exam at TrueVision Eye Care, our optometrists will assess various aspects of your child’s vision health, including visual acuity, eye tracking and focusing abilities, color vision, depth perception, and overall eye health. We also offer screenings for common childhood vision conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), and refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Early detection of these issues is key in preventing long-term vision problems that could affect your child’s quality of life, learning, and development.

When should my child's eyes be examined?

We typically start seeing children at 3 years old and yearly after that. Anytime a parent has concerns about their child’s eyes such as an eye turn, double vision, or a white pupil we can see them at any time before 3 years old.

Is my child likely to inherit my need for glasses?

Genetic risk is only a small portion of what contributes to a child’s future need for glasses.

Will sitting too close to the television set hurt my child's eyes?

Television will not harm a child’s eyes but too much indoor time is associated with an increased risk of myopia.
