What to expect during your diabetic eye exam 

When you visit TrueVision Eye Care for a diabetic eye exam, our eye doctor will start by taking a detailed medical history to understand your overall health and any symptoms you may be experiencing. Diabetes can affect your eyes in several ways, so we need to gather as much information as possible to tailor the exam to your specific needs. We will then assess your eye health by examining various parts of your eye such as the cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels in the back of your eyes. 

In some cases, we may recommend dilating your pupils to get a better view of the back of your eyes. While this process may cause temporary blurriness or sensitivity to light, it allows us to conduct a more thorough examination and detect subtle changes that might otherwise go unnoticed. However, if you prefer not to undergo dilation or have certain contraindications for dilation drops, we also offer digital retinal imaging as an alternative option. This cutting-edge technology allows us to capture detailed images of the retina without using dilating drops. Our eye doctor will determine if dilation is necessary based on your individual needs and overall eye health.
