Glaucoma is a leading cause of permanent vision loss, affecting more than 2.7 million Americans. The first place it is detected is at your eye doctor’s office during a comprehensive eye exam. Because glaucoma is completely painless, patients often have no symptoms or signs that they have a sight-threatening problem prior to their diagnosis. We evaluate for glaucoma at every examination by checking intraocular pressure and assessing the health of the optic nerve.
Our doctors treat glaucoma with prescription eye drops to lower eye pressure and work closely with area ophthalmologists when surgical procedures are warranted.
